Road Safety Audit

Here at PaRS Engineering, we are a team of two Road Safety Auditors, RoSPA trained, with a combined 23 years of Road Safety Auditing experience on Local Highways, following the DMRB GG119

Safety Audit CV’s will be presented for approval on request.

Stage 1 - Completion of Preliminary Design/Feasibility

Stage 2 - Completion of Detailed Design (or combined Stage 1&2)

Stage 3 - Completion of Construction

Stage 4 - Post Opening Monitoring (12 months)

PaRS Engineering are passionate about improving Road Safety, identifying and reducing risks to highway designs, ideally before construction, thus saving time, money and lives in the process.

Why, When and What

Simply, a minimum of 2 Road Safety Auditors will be looking at WHO can be hurt and WHY.

Many Local Highway Authorities undertake Road Safety Audits when the line or level of the highway is to be altered. (This will need to be approved by the Overseeing Organisation) They will generally use the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges as best practice.

Taken from DMRB GG119 for Trunk Roads- “Where there are physical changes to the highway impacting on road user behaviour or resulting in a change to the outcome of a collision on the trunk road and motorway network, Road Safety Audit (RSA) shall apply, regardless of the procurement method”.

It should be noted that a Road Safety Audit is NOT a check of standards.

Stage 1 - Completion of Preliminary Design/Feasibility

Stage 2 - Completion of Detailed Design (or combined Stage 1&2)

Stage 3 - Completion of Construction

Stage 4 - Post Opening Monitoring (12 months)

There are 4 stages of Audit

Compliance

Whilst Road Safety Auditing, PaRS Engineering are not a check of standards. We will however ensure that we comply with the principles set out in the DMRB GG119.

As part of any review, we will use Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, Manual for Streets, Manual for Streets 2, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Local Transports Notes along with the Local Highways Authority advice and guidance documents as best practice where appropriate.

Site visits/safety

6-point PPE is available for our team as required with 3-point PPE used as a minimum.

Live sites - Construction Site rules will apply, and appropriate PPE will be worn.

Dynamic risk assessments will be undertaken by PaRS Engineering staff on all other sites.
